Woodland Whimsy - Finished!!

I finished my Woodland Whimsy quilt a couple of weeks ago and it's now hanging up in my house!  I tried to get some good pictures but it gets weird shadows on it depending on what time of day I take them, but here are a few anyway.

I loved making this quilt and I enjoyed quilting it, even though I was a little worried about the quilting part.  I did a lot of stitch in the ditch and quilting around the appliqué and then just simple meandering to fill in where needed.  There is so much going on in the quilt that it really didn't need fancy quilting (not that I'm a fancy quilter anyway - ha!)

Oh!  I pinned the binding on before stitching and it does make my quilt lay flatter!  Good tip - thanks to Helen Butler!!

Fun, fun, fun!  On to the next project!  I still have three quilts that need quilting - I better get on the ball :)

  1. I am excited to finish my Woodland Whimsy after seeing your beautiful quilt! I didn't see the tip from Helen Butler about making your quilt lay flat. Would you please repeat it?

    1. I was asked to explain how Helen Butler's tip made my Woodland Whimsy quilt lay flat. I attended a lecture by Helen in September and she said she pins her binding on to her quilt (rather than just sewing it on, like I've been doing). So she pins one side, sews it on, pins the other side, sews etc. This way, you're easing the binding in rather than stretching it as you sew, so the edges of your quilt lie flat instead of curling up, as mine sometimes do. She lays her quilt flat on the floor to do the pinning. The Woodland Whimsy quilt was the first time I tried it and it worked great!

  2. Your quilt is beautiful. I just bought the complete pattern and have been looking at my stash for the large hexagons and the background, tough decisions because I love this quilt so much and want it to turn out as amazing as yours and the designers. Glad you posted pictures of how you quilted it, as that was already making me nervous! I haven’t been able to find many completed ones... so thank you!

  3. This quilt is beautiful. Is there a place where I may buy a handmade one? I am a quilt collector but not a quilter myself. I would love to have this one for my collection.
