Retreat!!

I've been lucky to be able to go to two stitching retreats, two weeks in a row!  This week the retreat was hosted by Laura from Black Sheep Handworx Studio.  It was a lovely day of stitching and working on projects - all handwork!  No humming of sewing machines at this retreat.  Food, games, door prizes and activities, plus wonderful friends all made for a great day.

Barb shared her progress on her Woodland Whimsy quilt.  She's almost done with this one and she's working on the hedgehogs which is her last block before she starts putting her quilt together!

Rena shared her needle keep, which turned out amazing.  She has a great eye for color and her embroidery stitches are next to perfection.   I'm just in awe, as she starting doing this not too long ago.

I finished up my woven pumpkins, made using my Zoom Loom.
This was a class that I took at Black Sheep and just finished last Wednesday.   FUN!!
I also worked on my Sue Spargo Block of the Month :). Great day!

The Princess Purse

Classes I've taken recently at Black Sheep Handworx Studio include Tatting, and Nonie's wool crazy purse.  This weekend my focus is getting my Crazy Purse embellished so I'm ready to put it together next class.  I've decided to put some of my tatting on my crazy purse (see above).  At first I was kind of chicken to start embellishing but once I got going it has been a lot of fun.  I quickly began thinking of it as The Princess Purse (you will see why when I share more pictures later) and someday I'm going to give it to my favorite little Princess, so I'm making it with her in mind.  Hence, quite a bit of PINK 😁

Family History

My daughter received a box of old pictures and documents containing family history from my mother.  She has been busy scanning images into the computer and recently sent me several.  It was fun spotting this old family photo of some Dickerson ancestors, posed in front of a quilt!  I love these old photos and love that they used their cherished quilts as a backdrop for the photo.  It looks a bit like a crazy quilt, but it is hard to tell.  So my quilting genes go way back :)

For all you Downton Abbey fans, tonight is the night season 5 starts in the USA!  I am excited.  It kinda makes me want to go dig through my stash of Downton Abbey fabric and start a new project!  But... I need to FINISH some first :)
Have a great day!

The Quilt Studio at the Denver Art Museum

On a recent trip to Denver with my family, we happened upon a Quilt Studio in the Denver Art Museum!  I had heard about it from Sherida Warner's article in the Daily Sentinel a while ago, but it was fun to actually see it in person.

You could try your hand at hand quilting.
Use glue and fabric and put together different quilt block options.

Many samples of quilts displayed.

Go crazy with crazy quilts!

And apparently up on the 6th floor, which I didn't have time to visit this trip, there is a permanent textile display.  I will have to check that out next time!
