Several years ago I made 12 little Brazilian Embroidery samplers. My intention was to put them all together into a little quilt. They were backed, however with a batting type fabric and I wasn't sure how to sew them into a quilt without making the part behind the flowers too bulky. I thought of "quilt as you go" and other methods but just couldn't seem to come up with a satisfactory solution. So they sat in my cupboard... In August Laura asked to borrow them for the EGA display at the public library and I realized that the last time she borrowed them - TWO years ago - they were still in this unfinished state. This time however, when I pulled them out, I thought of a great idea! Why not group them by color and make some bench pillows, which seem to be all the rage right now? I found one bench pillow form at My Girlfriends Quilt Shoppe but it was 18 inches x 36 inches (I think, if I remember correctly) and it seemed like the size of the pillow would just swallow up my little embroidered blocks. On Amazon I discovered these 12 inch x 24 inch pillow forms that were just the perfect size for three blocks. The rest of the pillow came together fairly easy - all with materials from my stash - and with a pillow, I didn't have to worry about any extra batting on the back of the flowers. I'm super happy with the way they turned out. 😄. And I'm happy that they're no longer sitting in the cupboard!
