Amazing Machine Quilting!

Believe it or not I still have pictures from the HMQS in Salt Lake!  I just can't emphasize enough how stunning these quilts were :)

This one is called "The Red Vase" by Cheryl Kerestes. She said the appliqué is all needle turned and was designed to compliment the quilting! (Rather than the other way around.  I usually choose quilting designs to compliment the appliqué!)
She won a Teacher's Choice award. Note the different colors of thread used too.  I would have to be way more confident in my quilting to try that....

A New Beginning by Susan Cronenwett

The quilting gets lost from a distance but in the picture below you can see some of the flowers.

I took a picture of this quilt because my daughter loves rodeos, AND it's a new twist (at least new to me) on a t-shirt quilt.  I like the way she left the collars on the rodeo shirts.

Crystal's Dream by Kathy Calhoun

Autumn Journey at White Oak by Kathryn Zimmerman, quilted by Brian Fackler.

First Place in the Mixed Technique category.

Diamonds by Sarah Cook

I love the design and colors in this quilt and then I looked at the artist's statement and it says "this is my first quilt" AND she's 14 years old!!  Already an award winner in a major quilt show - wow!!
She won Second Place in the Youth category.

Hula Hibiscus by Lisa Calle

This was a teacher display and this quilt has won two Best of Show awards in other shows along with other awards.  I'm pretty sure I've seen it in a quilting magazine - it's stunning in person.

Fire and Ice by Claudia Pfeil was also a teacher display. Amazing.

Tuscan Sun by Gina Perkes
Also in the Teacher Display area.  I think I need to take classes at this show next year!

A Happy Gift

One of my Tula Pink quilts went to this adorable little girl, and according to her Mom, she loves it!  Receiving these pictures made my day :)

She recently became a big sister to not just one, but TWO baby brothers!

Congratulations to her and her family!

FUN Family Vacation!

We spent a fun week in the Colorado mountains with our family!

I will try not to bore you with too many vacation photos :)  But here are a few of some of our adventures! Besides going to a CO Rockies
game....

We did quite a bit of biking.

Played a lot of games - as you know, we have to keep the Victory Board going!

Went kayaking!

Saw an Eagle's nest while kayaking!  Here you can see the nest and the mother sitting in the nest.

If you look closely, you can see the father sitting in a tree, not far from the nest.

Here it is from a distance with my daughter and son-in-law in their kayak taking photos - just before losing their cell phone in the lake!

We ate pizza in Leadville, the highest elevation city in America.

Did a little shopping - to find our Western roots :)

More biking!

Tennis at high altitude :)

Golfing in the gorgeous mountains.

Hiking....

Tried out paddle boarding, which was really fun!

Rode the gondola....

The weather was gorgeous, the activities fun and spending time with family - priceless.

We ate a lot of food!  Everyone took a turn cooking so it was really fun to see what great cooks my children have become and what they like to make :)

This is my youngest son's "build your own pizza" night, which was a huge hit.

Had a little pool tournament going!

And of course awarded prizes to the Victory Board winners!

Fun Family Times!  Always the best!

Colorado Rockies a Game

I went to a Colorado Rockies game with the family yesterday! It was a beautiful day.

I see quilting patterns everywhere. I love the field! You can see diagonal cross hatching overlaid on a checkerboard design. Skilled mowers!

The Rockies won!!

Mike ordered a Hipster pizza afterwards at Beau Joes and my son said, "How did the Hispter burn his mouth? ....He ate his pizza before it was COOL." 😀

Beauty in the Mountains

I'm not sure if I showed you Lori's completed Pike's Peak landscape quilt yet or not. I am just amazed out how beautiful it is and how talented she is! I love the three dimensional leaves and columbine flowers. Such beautiful detail....

Here are some beautiful mountains I saw on a recent hike with my family.
Enjoy the beauty of the day!
