Flashback

Here is a little flashback to a quilt I made many years ago for a Colorado West Quilt Guild challenge called "Yikes Stripes!"

My daughter drew the dragon and I turned it into this quilt - pretty creative for me, with the ear hanging off the border!  I named it "Yikes My Stripes are Dragon!!)

Leaf #52

Here it is!  Leaf #52 of the Leaf the Week Behind Challenge with West Coast Wool!

Mine is the one above and I followed her instructions pretty closely.  My friend Rena's is below and she did some creative stuff with hers 😊. Now to figure out how to finish it!!

Leaf 41!

Today's leaf is above 😊

Below is one that I experimented with, because I've added several more leaves to my tree so I'm going to have to do some extra.  I saw the circle (bottom picture) and decided to try to make a leaf with that design.  I like it!

It's A Challenge!

Colorado West Quilt Guild does a challenge every year and this year it was Colorful Colorado!  Those who participated got to pick a crayon from a bag and were required to use that color in their quilt.  I think the results were marvelous!

These are the winners!  (It's judged by everyone who attends casting a vote).  Two of them tied for first place and two tied for second.  Congratulations to them all! 👏😊❤️

Guild Presentations

I was asked to give a trunk show presentation at two of the locals guilds this month, both on Wednesday, one in the morning and one in the evening. I was nervous about it, but ended up really enjoying it!  It was fun pulling out my quilts and sorting through them, including these two - one made by my great grandmother Dora Bell McPherson and the other by my mother Melba Willard.  The quilts in the pictures below are some that I've made.  Doing the presenting also made me realize how much I miss the guilds!  I've been rather lazy about going since things started up again after the pandemic.  Anyway, it's time to get back and socialize with these lovely friends!  Cheers for quilt guilds and Quilty friends! 👏❤️

Oh and a big thanks to my CEO hubby who hauled 50 quilts in and out of cars and unloaded and loaded them up from both meetings.  He truly is the Carry Everything Out guy!! 🥰

Happy Sunday!!

Two more stockings embellished!  Did I mention that they are in alphabetical order?  Dec. 1st is an angel. 2nd is a bell etc.  I'm kind of working backwards here, but this is Vixen and below is an Ugly Christmas sweater 😂 I've also finished the Wreath, and the sleeping mouse X,Y,Z and the number 25 for Christmas Day.

Below is week 10 on Leaf the Week Behind.  It's not my favorite but I'm determined to try them all!

I just love this picture of the new baby giraffe at the Denver Zoo!  So cute! 🥰

Happy Sunday!

Burrows and Boughs

Another finish!!  I finished quilting and binding my Burrows and Boughs block of the month quilt by Jen Kingwell.  This one was a bit of a challenge, but I love the way it turned out!  I'm pretty happy with the quilting too 😊

What's On Your Shelf??

"What's On Your Shelf" was the challenge for the Colorado West Quilt Guild this year.  The reveal was last night, and the quilts (and the stories behind the quilts) were amazing!  Take a look! 😊

The quilt above was a tribute to the maker's grandmother, who taught her to quilt.

The details in this quilt were jaw dropping!  It's the maker's sewing room and there are even tiny quilting rulers hanging under the shelf!

A desert shelf!  A different twist!

Family memories and personal stories made these quilts so meaningful.

I was drawn to this one because I love miniatures.  The tiny little bolts of fabric!  The little sewing lamp even really turned on!  So cute.

Looking out Grandma's kitchen window where all of her African Violets were.  Beautiful dimensional flowers.

The whole family participated in making the one above and look at the crocheted leaves on the quilt below!

All were so creative!  I bought the fat quarter to enter the challenge, even had an idea, but .... didn't get it done.  I sure hope to next year!

Case In Point

Let's just start by saying that I am NOT a bag maker.  A few months ago I went to the local quilt store and they had a display of By Annie bags and you could enter to win a free pattern, so of course I did!  A week or so later I get a call that I won a pattern.  I went and picked it up and I chose the Case in Point pattern, wondering if I would ever make it.  Then the same store offered a class this Fall for the Case in Point bag!  I signed up, thinking that if I took the class then I would for sure make the bag.  While on a retreat with the guild in September I shopped for fabric for the bag, bought some, then found more cute fabric and bought that too.  Now I had enough fabric for TWO bags.

It took me two days to do all of the prep work for the class and I was looking forward to getting at least one bag done during the all-day class.  I decided I would make one for myself and one for my good friend who I've gone on a lot of quilting adventures with, as a Christmas gift.

A couple of days before the class, I got a call that the class was going to be postponed until sometime in 2024!  I'd never made a By Annie bag before but since one was a Christmas gift I was determined to figure it out.

Here are the results!  I was able to finish both bags before Christmas.  I told my friend to try not to notice the mistakes but to make note of the FIVE zippers I installed in each bag instead! 😂

Here are my first (and probably my last) By Annie bags!  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the bags and her patterns are amazing.  I just didn't enjoy making them...  I will enjoy using it though!  Hope my friend does too. 😊
