Here are the rest of the pictures I took of the quilt show in Midway.
This quilt is called "Ladies of the Sea" and it was made by Karin Lee Crawford and quilted by Judy Madsen. I voted for this quilt for Viewer's Choice because I love it! It did win a well deserved 1st Place in the "Best Appliqué" category.
The artist's statement says "The quilt is hand appliquéd, hand embroidered, machine pieced and long arm quilted. The ships are replicas of famous sailing vessels from history. The rigging is correct as are the wreaths encircling the ships in representing the countries these ships sailed for. The borders are composed of the flowers found in the wreaths."
I like the Mariner's Compass blocks in the four corners, very apropos. I love hand appliqué and I love the look of Baltimore Album quilts - this quilt is a stunning representation of both! The appliqué is AMAZING. The fact that she researched the ships and flowers to make sure they are all authentic reminds me of my friend Ruth, who makes a lot of quilts with historic significance. I just love this quilt and hope she enters it in a big show such as Paducah or Houston :)
She even has pirate ships on it!
Daylily
Made by Margaret Gray and quilted by her as well. She started this quilt in a class taught by Ann Phal.
This quilt was chosen for a Judge's Choice award by Judge Patsy Shelton.
Miss Penny Lane Brothman
Made by Lisa Brothman and quilted by Lisa. The quilt was made in honor of her English Cocker Spaniel. She started it in a class taught by Charlotte Warr-Anderson. It is hand appliquéd and she used four hand dyed brown fabrics and five different whites to get the colors right. It won 2nd Place in the "Small Wall Quilt" category.
Spring Wreath
I love this bright and cheery quilt made and quilted by Paula Dalby. She used a pillow pattern she had seen in a magazine for inspiration and created her own pattern. You never know where you might find inspiration!
Just One Weed
Made and quilted by Kaye Evans. She says "Notice the dandelion hexagon in the middle of the quilt? Every flower garden has at least one weed, hence the name." She completed this quilt by machine and will be teaching a class on the technique at a retreat in Bryce.
She won "Best Use of Color".
Mexican Star Adventure
Made by AnnaRae McAllister and quilted by Kim Peterson. She made this quilt for her son and his fiancee as they wanted a brown and beige quilt.
This quilt won 1st Place in the "Best Pieced" category. Once again I really liked the quilting by Kim Peterson! Below I have included some detail photos below for inspiration.
Laura from "Laura's Home", our
Wooly Lady" here in town had a booth in the vendor mall at the show in Midway. Both of these pictures are parts of her booth which was quite large AND quite crowded most of the time! Next year she will be teaching classes at this UQG event! Looking forward to that!
I started my son's t-shirt quilt - more on that later :)
Start your week with some fun quilting!
