While visiting family this weekend we took the time to stop by the Brigham City Museum to check out a quilt exhibit, which was quite an international affair! We spoke with the curator of the exhibit and she said she found quilts she liked in magazines, most of which were award winners in major shows, such as Houston and Paducah (a couple were even voted one of the best 100 quilts of the 20th century), and tracked down the maker/owner and asked them to send the quilt for this exhibit. The museum provided shipping cost and insurance, which she said was no small thing considering how much these award winning quilts are worth! It is a fantastic exhibit! I encourage you to go if you're heading to Northern Utah any time soon. I believe the exhibit runs until the end of August. It was amazing to see these quilts up close and personal without the huge crowds of a major show.
The Featured Quilt Artist is Margarete Heinisch. Following are several of her quilts. Tomorrow I will share pictures of "In the Heart of Europe" which is jaw-dropping.
