Morning in Hoorn

On day three of our trip we spent the morning on a bike ride in Hoorn.  This was one of our favorite days, and favorite cities.  It's a smaller city, more the size of where we live, so what we are used to, and it was just so pretty and nice.  We had a wonderful time biking around.  You'll see in the picture below we wore both helmets and safety vests - probably the only people in The Netherlands wearing bike helmets.  We got a few laughs from some local high schoolers, but we were definitely enjoying ourselves!

Fields of tulips!

Thatched roof houses!

Beautiful canals!

There were about ten in our bike group and we got to stop in the home of Sandra and Jeroen, who invited us in for pie.  They were such a nice couple, and they shared with us about their lives in Hoorn, their family, and what they like to do .  They collect refrigerator magnets (they have over 1000 so far) and gave us their address so we could send them one from Colorado.

Notice in the picture below that they have stoplights just for bicycles!  Bicycles are a special part of the culture in The Netherlands.  You'll notice above in the picture that shows the street that the bike path is almost as wide as the car path.  It's nice!
