I am having SO much fun with this Machine Quilting with Rulers YouTube class with Angela Walters! (See link in a previous post if you're interested). So far I've done Straight Edge rulers, Wavy Rulers and todays pictures are Arc and Pointy rulers.
I didn't really have a good ruler for "Arc" so off to Hi Fashion I went, with my gift card from Hubby (for Christmas), and I found these three great tear drop rulers for 50% off! They worked well for Arc and Pointy! I'm super happy I found them, tucked away on a back shelf, unwanted ... I'll put them to good use! 😂
So here's the thing. I'm still trying to get used to quilting with rulers and sometimes good old free motion quilting is just easier! Take for example these two photos. The photo below I used rulers and clearly didn't get close to making them the same size. The photo above, I just eye balled it and free motion quilted it - something I'm definitely more comfortable with. But I am finding there are some very cool designs you can make with rulers, that I couldn't possibly do free motion. So both will be good skills to have. I just need to practice, practice, practice!
Don't look too closely but pretty cool, right??
Practice, practice, practice...
I'm super happy with this motif (Angela said even if they're not the same size, just keep going and it will be OK, and it pretty much is! None of mine are the same size, but the overall effect is OK! Her mantra is "finished is better than perfect.")
Check out the fun border quilting below! Like I said, having a blast!
Let's see what I get to do tomorrow! 😊
