Asian Persuasion

Today I went to the Embroidery Guild's 35th birthday party.  It was an Asian themed party and we had lovely centerpieces, party favors and a beautiful display of Asian textiles and porcelain pieces brought in by the members.  Jane gave a wonderful presentation too on the history of textiles in Asia and many of the items on display were hers.  She is 87!

Jane told me that the bands (the neckline and the sleeve bands) on this jacket were stitched in the early 1800's.  It is beautifully preserved.

As you can see in this close up below, there are small scenes stitched in the bands - all by hand!

These two shirts were made in Indonesia for Jane's husband.  Look at the one below - how well each side of the shirt's design matches up where the buttons are!  Amazing!  The collar has perfect symmetry too.

What a fun morning, with wonderful friends :)
