I was in between hand projects so I picked up this little kit that I had purchased from a vendor at the quilt festival in Birmingham, England a couple of years ago. (We didn't go to England for the quilt festival, but happened to be on a pre-planned trip, when I found out that the quilt festival was going on while we were there - so happy side trip to Birmingham!) The vendor was from France so the instructions are mostly in French. I was using Google translate, until I finally figured out that if I looked up the stitch, as written in French, on the pattern, the English translation was underneath. So for example, I discovered that Le point d'araignée is the Spiderweb Rose, or as we like to call it, the Woven Circle. Le point de feston droit, is none other than the Blanket Stitch! And the very easy Le point lancé is the Straight Stitch.
I started out just doing the embroidery stitches - no hoop - as I'm used to stitching on wool and don't need a hoop. When it started puckering I knew I needed to do something. I ironed Presto Sheer on the back and continued on without the hoop and it worked fine!
I didn't follow the finishing instructions. Even though they were in English, I didn't quite understand them! 😂. Plus I wanted to added a thin layer of batting and a lining. For the lining I chose a piece of Liberty of London fabric that I had on hand, because it's so pretty, went well with the piece, and it too came from England. I planned on using it as a glasses case, but it is rather large for that. It is about the right size to hold my rotary cutter. Pretty snazzy rotary cutter case though! Hmm... any suggestions for uses? Pretty fun to make and fun to look at!! 😊❤️
That’s really cool looking!
