About a year and a half ago we took a trip to England Norway and my husband made an extra special effort to get me to the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham England. He patiently sat and read his book all day while I took my time looking at quilts and shopping from vendors, many who had traveled from afar to get there. I had such a great time, it's a fun memory. I even bumped into Ricky Tims there and spoke to him for a bit.
While there I purchased a kit for a bobbin pincushion that looked like a field of sheep! I fell in love with it and wanted to make one for myself.
With this extra time I've unexpectedly had these past few weeks, I finally finished it and I love it! It was fun making it, and it brought back wonderful memories of that trip.
One memory is that after we left Birmingham and were driving back to London in our rental car (I should mention here that my husband was driving on the "wrong" side of the car, on the "wrong" side of the street 😂 in a manual transmission), it started pouring rain. It was raining buckets. I looked out the window and in a field right by the road were dozens of cows running for shelter. I've never seen cows run so fast in my life! It was quite a sight. But the beautiful green field reminds me of my pincushion, only mine has sheep instead of cows!
To make this I started with the base, after a little cutting, stitching flowers and sewing and gluing, I got the base finished.
Then it was time to make the sheep and the bushes. To my surprise these were built on pins that are then just pushed into the pin cushion. So I can rearrange my "scene" anytime I want! So clever!
These little sheep are pretty small - the two lambs as you can see are less than an inch tall. Each had to be stuffed as well.
Here it is all finished! Don't you love it? You can see why I couldn't resist 😊
In the picture below I added some sheep pins - might as well have more sheep in the field! ❤️
